Adian Claasen | More Than Just Training

What began as a pursuit of bigger goals in cycling became a journey of learning to train with purpose, understand his body and trust the process — growing not just as an athlete, but as a person.

My journey with My Conditioning Coach has honestly been about a lot more than just training and getting fitter.
When I started with MCC, I knew I wanted to see how far I could take myself in cycling. I had big ambitions, but I also knew that if I wanted to reach that level, I couldn’t simply rely on riding more.
I needed to learn how to train properly — and consistently.

Learning to train with purpose

What I really appreciated about MCC was that I never felt like I was just another athlete following a programme.
The training was built around me, my goals and how I was responding.
There were good days, bad days, hard sessions and races that didn’t go the way I wanted them to. But having someone behind me who understood the bigger picture made those difficult moments much easier to deal with.
I’ve had races where I’ve been disappointed with my result and questioned what I could have done differently.
But those moments have also taught me a lot.
MCC helped me understand that one race or one bad day doesn’t define you as an athlete.
It’s about looking at what happened, learning from it and getting back to work.

Understanding the athlete I’ve become

One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed in myself is the way I approach training.
I understand my body and my training much better now, and I have more confidence in why I’m doing each session.
I’ve also become much more disciplined and, perhaps most importantly, more patient with the process.
I don’t need every session or every race to prove something.
I understand that improvement takes time.

Still chasing bigger goals

Looking back, I’m really grateful for the role MCC has played in my cycling journey.
From where I started to where I am now, I’ve grown a lot — not just as a cyclist, but as a person.
I’m still chasing bigger goals and I know there is still a lot more I want to achieve.
But I’m excited about what’s ahead.
And I know that everything I’ve learnt through MCC will stay with me throughout the rest of my journey.

Trust the process

If I could give another athlete one piece of advice, it would be simple:
Trust the process and be patient.
The results don’t always come immediately.
But if you put in the work, stay consistent and have the right people around you, you can surprise yourself with what you’re capable of.
And I think that’s probably what my MCC journey has taught me most.
You don’t always need to see how far you can go. Sometimes you just need to keep going and trust where the process is taking you.
